Rift Riff

Rift Riff is a tower defense game with free roaming monsters, predefined tower locations, overpowered upgrades, and vibrant worlds.

Monsters attack in waves, either going straight for your basecamp or attempting to destroy every tower in proximity. You obtain juice (your build resource) during monster waves and have the ability to build towers both during and after waves. Surviving the waves of monsters in every world unlocks more worlds and gives you prisms, a resource that unlocks more towers and tower upgrades.

So what’s the deal with the rifts? Rifts in spacetime fling you from one atmospheric world to another. While you summon towers and extract energy from each world to create a rift to bring you home (hopefully, probably, maybe) its inhabitants aim to sabotage your escape.

The 3-person team making Rift Riff came together in 2024 specifically to make the game. Game Designer Adriaan de Jongh has been making games since 2011 with the black-and-white searching game Hidden Folks as his biggest hit. Illustrator Sim Kaart did graphic design for various creative projects from 2012 before joining Adriaan in making games in 2020 — more specifically, the music party game Secret Shuffle. Music composer and Sound Designer Matthijs Koster created the music and sound for Rift Riff, which is his first game.

Rift Riff is now available as a demo on Steam and will be released early 2025.
