Le Palace selected for the NFF

Earlier this year, Matthijs refined the quadrophonic mix for Daan Kouijzer’s and Yentl Bakker’s video installation Le Palace. The film revisits the iconic 1980s Parisian nightclub of the 1980s, known as a stronghold of creativity, freedom, and self-expression. In today’s world this vision of Le Palace feels increasingly utopian. Kouijzer’s and Bakker’s version of Le Palace is a contemporary, abstract reinterpretation—focusing on the fight for existence and the right to express.

Matthijs’s sound design, mix and music (courtesy of his Nachtvocht collective) place the film in a daydream-like space. For the Dutch Film Festival (NFF), the installation was reworked to a short film in a new edit. MOST adapted the soundmix to a surround cinema mix.

BrandMR ● For An Equal Fight

Legal challenges often show up when you least expect them. Suddenly, the rules are different and you’re unsure what to do. This is where BrandMR steps in, offering clarity, fixed steps and fixed prices. Medianauts & Susanne Opstal translated extensive research by agency team5pm into a powerful story.

Matthijs created evocative sound design for the resulting film. In his sound design and mix he skillfully combined raw telephone audio, expressive effects, and dreamy sound bites. The film, made with archival footage and new material, truthfully shows what justice looks like before the legal quagmire develops.

Allard Pierson Museum ● Amsterdam Eats

The exhibition Amsterdam Eet takes you through 750 years of Amsterdam’s food culture. Nine iconic dishes, from herring to nasi, show the influence of food on the city of Amsterdam and its inhabitants. You’ll discover where these dishes were eaten, who ate them, and how they contributed to the identity of the city. The exhibition, designed by Synergique, is a full sensory experience — including sound.

MOST created a soundscape that embodies the process of preparing a meal: from kitchen labour to plating, and pouring drinks. Alongside this immersive sound design, we handled the audio mix for a series of interviews featuring Wim de Beer & Jos Timmer (Restaurant De Kas), culinary journalist Hiske Versprille, food reviewer Nana Asare (Connecting Flavors), and Super Dushi chef Jurino Ignacio.

MOST uses AI and keeps it real

We keep a critical eye on the development of generative AI in our field and have recently been doing some projects where gen-AI was a welcome addition to our palette. For Utrechts Archief we gave six historical characters their voices, using a combination of AI and a human voice talent. Of course, we kept the project’s data safe from the AI engine.

Curious to hear what we did? Check our Note with audio examples about our process. A handy overview of our current position on gen-AI voices, including audio examples and pro’s and cons of various options, can be found here.

NEW! Human voices can get an update too

With AI-voice generation on the market for about two years, we are happy to report that for the majority of work we do at MOST, the human voice still reigns supreme. As most of you know, you can count upon MOST to provide you with a suitable voice-over casting on demand. Lesser known perhaps is that we also create voice-over demos from time to time. Recently we streamlined that process and put together a nice and affordable package for (aspiring and experienced) voice actors who feel that their demo reel deserves an update. Read all about it here!

Bouwend Nederland ● Dag van de Bouw

Ever wondered what’s going on exactly at a construction site? De Dag van de Bouw (Day of Construction) is an open day where everyone is welcome (helmet required!). This year 45,000 people visited 132 locations. Bouwend Nederland asked Yune to create a colourful campaign to promote the open day and illustrate the point that everyone is invited. We happily worked together with Daan Kouijzer (director) and created the sound design and mix.

Maritiem Muzeeum Zeeland ● Coke on the Coast

‘Coke aan de Kust’ (Coke on the Coast) is a confronting and educational experience for vocational students. It aims to raise awareness of the dangers of cocaine trafficking. Synergique created an innovative serious game that addresses drug crime in the port of Vlissingen. Students are assigned a role and get to work, until they are approached by a hustler. These approaches start friendly but become increasingly threatening. MOST was involved in the in-game audio and the audio of the introduction movie. Navigating the pitfalls of stereotyping while staying true to the language of drug criminals required some careful casting and voice-direction by the MOST team. The lifelike performances ultimately convey a clear message: you can only say no once.

More MOST

Sometimes it’s not music & sound design, but a suitable VO and mix that the project needs to succeed. At MOST, we’re happy to help make that difference by careful VO casting, perceptive voice direction and a tight mix.

One of Q2’s highlights: casting, recording and mixing Dutch and Flemish voices for a sizable campaign for Hills. Other notable work served clients like Senseo, Sudocrem, Heineken, Etos, Bouwmaat, Gall & Gall, Babybel and L’OR.

With attention for detail and love for great sound in all its forms we make sure that for each project, the soundtrack we deliver gets as good as it can be.
